Book Description:

Two women. Two worlds. One epic destiny.
Discover a dazzling epic fantasy series by USA Today Bestselling Author Brandon Barr.

A god-gifted young woman is chosen for a grim task– one that will take her beyond the boundaries of her own world. Winter’s chilling visions of the future make clear that her choices will not only affect the success of her mission… but whether those she loves will live or die.

On the distant world of Hearth, Meluscia is the daughter of a dying king. As he wages a bitter war in the north, a growing evil devours the villages of the east. She would turn her kingdom’s forces to face the emerging threat– but first, she must gain the throne… and confront the secret desire that torments her soul.

Though worlds apart, Meluscia and Winter’s destinies are bound together by portals and an ancient prophecy that promises to pull friend and foe together in a devastating collision.

An excellent choice for fans of Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks. RISE OF THE SEER is Book One in the Song of the Worlds series.

My Review:

This is an intense epic fantasy! You'll get sucked in right from the beginning, if you're able to handle all the darkness, violence, and everything else Brandon Barr throws at his characters. The story follows several different points of view, but each one will hold your interest with all the complexities and unexpected twists and turns. There's no way that you can predict what's going to happen next! It ends on a cliffhanger. Please be advised that, even though it's listed under both young adult and new adult, this book contains sexual content including voyeurism, so it's more suitable for new adults and up.

3 Favorite Quotes from Rise of the Seer:

Savarah to Meluscia:
"In one of your sacred texts it says that the blood of the innocent cries out for justice. That has become the sound in my ears. Vengeance. Justice."

Rivdan to Meluscia:
"No matter what others say, knowledge is far more powerful than blades and arrows."

Katlel to Meluscia:
"...Don't surrender your will. Keep fighting. That's how so many of the great ones of history became who they are."

Brandon Barr passed away on Wednesday afternoon (21 Nov. 2018) after losing a 3 year battle with leukemia.

His family posted this:

"As he took his final breaths, he was surrounded by friends and family worshiping God. He’d sing “Bless the Lord, Oh my Soul” to his boys every night before bed and we were singing that as he drifted off."

As everyone who knew him knows, Brandon's faith in God gave him great hope and peace during these difficult times. I know he is safe in the arms of the God he so faithfully loved. ~ J.A. Andrews friend and author

What's next?

Over the next year or so, several authors have committed to finishing Brandon's book 4 (of which he's written about 60%) and then writing book 5 off of the outline Brandon created. These co-writers have been deeply involved in his world already and are trying very hard to keep true to Brandon's visions for the books as well as his writing style. We are hoping that his writing can become a legacy that will help support his family in the future. ~ J.A. Andrews (author of A Threat of Shadows and Pursuit of Shadows)
