Guest Farm in the Klein Karoo and a Linky

The Hex River Valley
On Saturday we drove out to a guest farm past the Hex River Valley between De Doorns and Montagu. We were far enough off the beaten track that we had no mobile/internet reception. We were helping to host an Alpha course Holy Spirit weekend for the guys from the Christian drug and alcohol rehab where we minister. We all had a great time and it was nice to see the guys looking so happy and relaxed!

The Alpha course is also a lot of fun and is designed to fit everyone, even those who have never been to church. The guys have been going through the video series once a week with us at the rehab. They have been connecting well with the content and the true stories have been having a big impact. Many people don't know much about the Holy Spirit, if anything, so the sessions on this weekend camp were well received. We also had time to pray for each guy individually and give them words from the Lord.

Addiction Recovery Farm and Weekend #Linky

Welcome to my weekend blog hop -
Make My Saturday Sweet #183!

A quick greeting and warm wishes to my regular visitors of my weekend blog hop. You might have noticed that I wasn't on top of things and that, in fact, I was dragging my feet last month! Well, besides being terribly distracted today, I do feel better and ready to tackle this month full speed ahead. Last month I didn't even post a book review, but this month I have 5 book posts lined up and my first one went live yesterday. Often included is a PayPal cash or Amazon gift card giveaway, so don't miss out!

Some of you will have read about RAEL, the addiction recovery farm, where my husband visits twice a week as a Christian volunteer. He goes to encourage the guys and give Bible training.

Last Saturday we participated in an event that they were running, a 48-hour loom-athon, to knit scarves and beanies for the needy while raising addiction awareness and removing the stigma associated with addicts. It's wintertime in South Africa, in case you were wondering why the scarves and beanies.

If you would like to read more about RAEL, then check out my more in-depth post from last year, Sober Living.

R.A.E.L. - Safe and Sober Living
Recovering Addicts, Empowering Lives

South Africa

This last week my husband, Robbie, was invited to join a small church group who visit a drug rehabilitation facility once a week to pray, listen, and encourage the men in recovery. Robbie was really impressed with what he saw and especially appreciated how no one was hiding behind a facade, everyone was real and open. He is looking forward to his next visit.

About R.A.E.L.
Recovering Addicts, Empowering Lives

R.A.E.L. takes a holistic approach in dealing with substance abuse and its effects.

R.A.E.L. is not a lock-down facility, and the basic requirement of admittance is the desire to live a clean, substance free life. After a six month recovery period, they are assisted, where possible, in finding employment in their immediate vicinity, whilst they continue to reside in a safe and sober environment.

R.A.E.L. believes that this is a family illness - their aim is to re-unite families and remove the stigma attached to addiction through education, using their own experiences, strengths and hopes.

R.A.E.L. is well known in South Africa and beyond, for their success in assisting addicts and alcoholics.

Anthony is the founder of World Addiction Day (2009), and annually they hold events around the world on the 21st of September to create awareness. His message is life changing and he represents hope to families in all communities.

About Anthony Hall

The ministry was begun by Anthony Hall, a former Drug squad (SANAB) and Murder and Robbery unit Detective who went from a successful businessman to the park bench through alcohol and drugs. Together with co-founder Karin Hall they have established a farm dedicated to helping addicts, called "RAEL - House of Davnik, Safe and Sober Living"Davnik is named in memory of David Dowlman and Nikki Wilkinson, close family and friend, who both died in their early years, due to substance abuse.

Anthony has been featured on various media and radio stations and his life story was aired on television on the program "Against all Odds" in August 2012. The documentary can be followed on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PqxZ81UOpc

The documentary is 8 minutes and 33 seconds in length. I don't recommend it for sensitive viewers. I have, however, included a brief news clip below (under 2 minutes in length) about Anthony and their nonprofit work at R.A.E.L.

I also recently featured a true story
about a young lady who was
once lost to alcoholism...
