Walking the Dogs and a Linky

Our newest addition, Biscuit, is the perfect companion for Koda and our family. If you would like to see the two dogs together in our back garden, then check out last week's post! My husband takes them for exercise twice a day and Biscuit prefers walking next to him most of the time even when she's free to run. We joined them for this particular one.

First Command: A Tides Novella

First Command
A Tides Novella (Book 0.5)

First Command: A TIDES novella by [Lidell, Alex]

My Review:

This is a highly descriptive seafaring tale that will leave you breathless. The dangers are real, the characters tough, and you're kept on the edge of your seat until the end. I recommend reading this novella first before Air and Ash as this novella sets the scene for what's to come. I read Air and Ash about two years ago and it's still one of my all-time favorite fantasy novels.

Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing a digital copy of this book that I think came from a book promotion site, but it was so long ago that I can't remember the details.

Our Newest Addition to the Family and a Linky

Yesterday was our 24th Anniversary! My husband says being married 24 years is better than "living next door to Alice." (This is a reference to an old song by Smokie.) And, today is my 333rd Picture Perfect Party Linky! I've been numbering the blog hops and I only post one a week, so that's saying something.

Biscuit, our newest addition to the family, loves going for walks and hanging out with Koda. He enjoys her company too. We also introduced her to our two cats and she behaved herself, although the cats weren't impressed.

Our New Dog and a Wedding at RAEL with Linky

Robbie with Biscuit and Koda

We adopted a new dog, so that Koda could have a friend! We brought her home from the animal shelter this past weekend to see how the two would interact. We could see almost immediately that she was going to fit right in with our family. Amanda named her Biscuit and we officially adopted her yesterday!

On Saturday we attended a wedding at RAEL (Recovering Addicts Empowering Lives). I noticed that my Addiction Recovery Farm feature has been consistently showing up in my sidebar under the Popular Posts. This is where Hubby and I do ministry twice a week. We give the guys biblical truths to help them navigate their future with God. The wedding was a meaningful event as the groom had once been at death's door when he arrived at RAEL a few years ago. He has subsequently found a new life in Christ and a wife who also loves God.

All of these photos (above and below) were taken with my phone, so if they look a little different, you'll know why.

FREE Short Story: The Heart-Shaped Chest

The Heart-Shaped Chest

The Heart-Shaped Chest: Adventure by Association the Everternia Saga by [DiPietro, Zen]

About the Book:

Title: The Heart-Shaped Chest: Adventure by Association the Everternia Saga | Author: Zen DiPietro | Genre: Steampunk | Recommended Age: All Ages

Book Description:

Equip new adventurers. Send them out to find their way in Everternia. Sally's purpose has always been clear.

Until one adventurer treats her like a real person, rather than just a piece of interactive scenery, and opens up a whole new understanding of herself and the world around her. Life becomes a puzzle, and there's nothing Sally loves more than a good puzzle.

Can Sally Streetmonger become a real adventurer, and choose her own destiny? She has only ever known the inside of her store, but there's a growing hunger within her to find out more. To see everything.

To find adventure.

"The Heart-Shaped Chest" is a short story. Sally's adventures will continue with her first full-length book, Trailblazer.

FREE on Amazon!

My Review:

This is a fun short story and an introduction to Sally before her adventures begin. She's a cute character with a limited vocabulary who is programmed to run her store and nothing more. There's a bully who comes into her shop regularly, but Sally never complains. However, someone else notices her and treats her like a real person. That's when Sally begins to have a taste for more than just her restricted life. I can't wait to read further!

I got the idea that my family would enjoy Zen DiPietro's latest story, so on a longish drive my 18-year-old daughter Samantha read it to us in the car. It was a hit with everyone, including my husband and adult son! My 11-year-old daughter Amanda wasn't ready for it to end and wants to continue following the series. I was surprised that I enjoyed it even more the second time around!

My Reviews of Zen's Books:

About the Author:
Zen DiPietro
Zen DiPietro

Zen DiPietro is a lifelong bookworm, dreamer, writer, and a mom of two. Perhaps most importantly, a Browncoat Trekkie Whovian. Also red-haired, left-handed, and a vegetarian geek. Absolutely terrible at conforming. A recovering gamer, but we won’t talk about that. Particular loves include badass heroines, British accents, and the smell of Band-Aids.
