My Writing Journey - Part 1

This November I embarked on a new journey. Just over a week ago, I asked both of my adult daughters if I should participate in this year's NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), and they gave a resounding yes. Recently, they asked me a couple of times to resurrect a book I began writing for them when Jessica was twelve, which was ten years ago! I read through that incomplete story to refresh my memory two days before November. My goal is to attempt the 50,000-word challenge for this month with all new words. I am already behind, so I don't know if I will manage it. Once NaNoWriMo is finished, I will look for pieces that are worth saving from the original book and incorporate them. I am inviting you to join me on this journey, here on the blog and in my brand new Facebook group!

Here's a snippet from Chapter 1 -
the first two paragraphs. Enjoy!

Here are the first two paragraphs in text format:

Myra knew she was in trouble when she saw Nuala’s irate expression. Myra now stood in the solar, after being summoned. It was their private family sitting room with sleeping quarters attached. Unfortunately, the only family left was her and her sister. Nuala was nineteen, only two years older, but she behaved like their mother. Myra preferred her mother’s chastising over her sister’s, but their mother was no longer alive. Ever since their mother’s passing, Nuala had changed, and so had their relationship. Being the new ruler would do that to someone.

She could guess why she was in trouble. She knew the last time she had secretly met with Damien, someone had seen them as she glimpsed movement and a retreating form. There was nothing that she could do about it now. Squaring back her shoulders, she prepared herself for whatever came next.
