My Writing Journey - Part 4

November is nearly over and my writing progress has been really slow, mainly due to research. My word count for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) so far is close to 20,000 and the goal is 50,000. I'm not going to beat myself up about it though, as I'm enjoying the research and it gives me the confidence that I need to write believable scenes. My genre is Romantic Fantasy set in a Medieval Period. My world-building is more realistic than fantastical, and my magical elements are few.

I am motivated to keep writing, even after NaNoWriMo. I could certainly use a few cheerleaders in my corner, so I invite you to follow along on my journey here on the blog and in my brand new Facebook group!

Here is today's sneak peek:
(Neither Myra nor Vania is speaking in her first language.)

Myra inhaled the tea, finding the aroma relaxing as she tried to place the fragrances. She recognized the herbaceous earthy scents of chamomile, but there was also something spicy. She took a careful sip of the hot liquid and picked up the subtle apple taste of the chamomile and something peppery that she didn’t recognize. She commented, “Chamomile and… What else?”

Vania looked impressed. “Yes, chamomile and ginger. They will make you calm, and your stomach will feel better.”

“I don’t know ginger,” Myra admitted.

“It grows in the Palm Islands and the south part of Baioni.”

Myra sipped her tea, closed her eyes, and smiled. It was soothing, as her nerves were still raw from the day’s ordeal.
