Indie Fantasy Addicts Summer Reading Challenge

Indie Fantasy Addicts Facebook Group
Summer Reading Challenge 2020

#IFASummerChallenge20 Details!
The reading challenge starts June 1! Read ANY indie fantasy, and subgenre of fantasy (ARCs, audiobooks, and shorts included) and have a chance at winning some amazing prizes such as signed books, ebooks, audiobooks, and swag from some Amazon Bestselling and USA Today Bestselling authors!

HOW TO PLAY:
All you have to do is post about what you're reading, tag them with #IFASummerChallenge20 and share your thoughts on the books (without spoilers) so the rest of us can discover more amazing adventures! All reads must be numbered to make it easier to count. (Eg. #43 Book by Author) And, if you can also tag your team, that would be awesome. There is no list, but all group reads are worth bonus points! (#IFASummerChallenge20Bonus)

If you are on a team, you are responsible for reporting your points to your captain in a spreadsheet or a weekly thread (however the team chooses to do it) just so no one is chasing after anyone. :)

POINTS:
We're doing the points a little different this year.

Short Stories: under 15k words or under 50 pages = 1 point

Novels = 2 points

Group Reads: Add 1 bonus point

If you've read the group reads BEFORE the challenge, you do not have to reread the book. Just share your review to collect your points.

The goal? For members to discover more nail-biting, edge of your seat, take-you-for-a-wild-ride-and-leave-you-breathless books!

The Challenge will go from June 1 to September 21, 2020—the last day of summer! For the solo challenge (everyone is included in this regardless if you’re on a team or not), your individual scores will be posted on a scoreboard and prizes will be given in order of your rank.

TEAMS:
In addition to the regular individual scoreboard, both authors and readers have the opportunity to join a team for even more fun, and more chances to win! There will also be prizes awarded to the winning team, the team with the best team spirit, the team who listened to the most audiobooks, etc.

Join the Facebook group here: Indie Fantasy Addicts

If you haven't signed up for a team or you'd like to be randomly assigned, the teams are posted here: Summer Reading Teams

We'll post the team scores each week Harry Potter style!

This is going to be a blast!!!! Start getting your Challenge TBR lists ready!!!!

Stunning Sunsets and a Linky

We saw some stunning sunsets over the weekend. We're in South Africa, but I noticed people in other countries sharing similar sunset photos on Instagram. My dad is in California, and he said that they also saw something like this on the weekend. Aren't these colors just amazing? Two pics are from Saturday, but the rest were taken on Sunday. We're still in lockdown, so I wasn't supposed to walk out on our street to take photos, but I couldn't resist.

Mother's Day and More with a Linky

Even though we're on lockdown in South Africa, I still have plenty of things to photograph from the safety of our home. The first two pics are of the full moon the other night. It was also a supermoon. Another day there was fog over the dam and it was Mother's Day on Sunday. I hope everyone is keeping safe!

Fae Nightmare

Today's Sock Sunday feature is Fae Nightmare (Book 3) by Sarah K.L. Wilson. I love the covers to the Tangled Fae series! All of them are beautiful. This one, Fae Nightmare, blends a bit more whimsy in with the danger. It's fitting with Book 3 as we get to see Allie Hunter's nurturing heart. She's back in the human world, but things have changed in the ten years that she was gone. She needs to navigate the new dangers while figuring out a way to free the children and trap her evil sister, and she has to do all this without an ally. Allie is also desperately trying to get back to her trickster Fae husband, Scouvrel. Even though these two have been separated, we still get small glimpses of him in the Fae world. They might have a complicated relationship, but I'm rooting for them! #socksunday #whatimreading #weekend #reading #fantasy #youngadult #newadult #books #ebook #bookaddict #indiebook #Bookstagram #Bookstagramer #igreads #booklover #bibliophile #fiction #adventure #fae #folklore #bookreview #newrelease #nofilter #nofilterneeded @sarahklwilson

My Review:

I'm reviewing The Mail-Order Witch Episode 2 by Joynell Schultz in the second anthology, Wayward Magic. It's a cozy magical mystery about a witch named Ettie who wants to help people. Her husband, Roman, wants to see her succeed and helps her at her store when he has free time. Roman's estranged father recently moved in with them. When there's a hamster infestation at the store, Ettie isn't sure who is behind it, but her father-in-law is among the suspects. He doesn't like magic being flaunted in front of non-magical humans, so there's a good chance that he isn't happy with her selling magical items to the community. There’s a resolution with the hamsters and we learn more about Roman's father, but the mystery regarding the saboteur continues in The Mail-Order Witch Episode 3 in the third anthology, Forgotten Magic.

I'm also reviewing the short narrative serial “The Ones Who Fight” by C.S. Johnson in Wayward Magic. This is a thought-provoking coming-of-age story about a girl named Skyla who lives in a utopian society that is hiding a dark secret. When she learns the horrific truth behind their perfect society, she decides to act. Her friend Aidan has agreed to help her attempt the impossible. Does her action help or destroy the community? The story will continue in “The Ones Who Choose” in Forgotten Magic.

More by Joynell Schultz:

About the Author:
Joynell Schultz

Joynell Schultz

Joynell Schultz manages the family zoo (literally!) and writes romantic speculative fiction in her (nearly non-existent) free time. She's a pharmacist by training (boring!) but prefers to hang out with zebras and bears or some imaginary characters.

Nonfiction by C.S. Johnson:

About the Author:
C.S. Johnson

C.S. Johnson is the author of several young adult novels, including sci-fi and fantasy adventures such as the Starlight Chronicles series, the Once Upon a Princess saga, and the Divine Space Pirates trilogy. With a gift for sarcasm and an apologetic heart, she currently lives in Atlanta with her family.

Disclosure: I received ARCs of both stories. This is my honest and voluntary review.
