Cut to the Heart

Book Blurb:

All Josie Framer wants is a man with fire magic—and to find the truth-knife that’s rightfully hers.

However, neither of these quests is going well.

After her latest date-turned-disaster, she's almost ready to give up—when she happens along the blade on the way home. Unfortunately, reclaiming her property makes her target of the Arcane Market, a nefarious underground trafficking ring for magical artifacts and magical beings.

To make things worse, she keeps running into Oliver Salamandras, a dangerously attractive fire elemental who’s on the run from his own hunters. Getting involved with him means more trouble. Plus he has enough baggage for an aircraft carrier.

If only he wasn’t just what she's looking for--right at the worst possible moment.

Faced with deadly foes and an irresistible stranger, a woman might just do something crazy.
Drastic.
Life-changing.

My Review:

Cut to the Heart by Janeen Ippolito is Book 1 of The Arcane Market Adventures. It is a two-book companion duology to The Steel City Genie urban fantasy series - a series within a series. It also has references to The Accidental Alien Romance Chronicles, taking place after My Alien Boyfriend and before My Alien Engagement. All of that might sound confusing, but the author does take the time to introduce some of the characters before jumping into Josie's story, who we first meet in The Steel City Genie series. Ippolito likes mashing things up and writing quirky characters. Her stories are fast-paced and laced with plenty of humor. It's good fun romantic fantasy with some deeper moments. This one has a strong Christian message in it too.

On the Boardwalk Part 5 and a Linky

I'm sharing more boardwalk photos! I have two of Amanda and two of a unique sunset. There is a boardwalk in all four photos. You might have to look closely to see it in the last two. I think Amanda's hair swinging in the wind in the second pic goes well with the crashing wave behind her. December's summer beach days are over and the new school year has begun.

Sitting on the Boardwalk and a Linky

Sometimes we just need to sit and pause, especially when the day gets busy. It's about practicing mindfulness. That's why I am trimming back today's blog post. It's been a busy day and I don't want to lose sight of what's important. I chose photos that remind us to sit and enjoy the moment. These are my daughters and my husband. My daughters from youngest to oldest are Amanda, Samantha, and Jessica. Then there is Ziggy, my in-laws' miniature Schnauzer.

Blue Skies and Boardwalks with a Linky

I enjoy photographing the clouds as much as the waves at Britannia Bay on South Africa's West Coast. We were there over December. We live in a part of the beautiful wine region, which is just as nice.

I think the most unusual cloud formation is in the last two photos. The clouds were covering the sky like a comforter. My two favorite pics are of the softer clouds that look as if an artist smudged the lower half with their finger. Do you have a favorite?

About the Author:
H.L. Burke

H. L. Burke has written more books than she can count—because she's written a lot of books, not just because she can't count very high. Easily distracted by shinies, she has published in many sub-genres including fantasy romance, Steampunk, and superhero, and always creates story worlds with snark, feels, and wonder.

Married to her high school crush, she spends her time writing, spoiling her cat, and supervising her two supervillains in training (aka her precocious daughters).

An Oregon native, she wilts without trees and doesn't mind the rain. She is a fan of delicious flavor, a follower of the Light, and a believer in happily ever after.
