Halloween in South Africa and a Linky

Samantha created this digital art piece on Halloween. She drew it freehand. She's so creative!

Who celebrated Halloween? We usually mark the day by eating American candy, but otherwise, it's pretty quiet. Our main candy was M&Ms. We only eat them about once a year. They're a bit pricy in South Africa. We started watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix and it just so happened the next one in the queue on the day of Halloween was the Halloween episode! We didn't even know there was a Halloween episode.

All three girls are home this week (two of them are university students). They'll be writing end-of-the-year exams soon. The school year starts around January and ends around December. Summer break is over Christmas. The photo below was taken in September. Amanda is standing on a slight incline, making her look taller.

Spectacular Sunset Part 2 and a Linky

A few days ago, I grabbed my Canon PowerShot before heading out for an evening walk in the veld (grassland) with my husband and our two dogs. I captured this spectacular sunset and this is Part 2. No filters were added. These pics are straight from the camera.

Ghosted: A Short Story

Book Description:

Ghosts thrive on fear, but Maisie just isn't delivering. In fact, Lazarus isn't even sure she realizes she's being haunted.

When expert haunter, Lazarus Bently, receives a cry for help from a fellow ghost, he rushes to the chaotic cottage of eccentric artist Maisie. If Ghost HQ finds out Lazarus couldn't get a rise out of this little old lady, he'll never live it down.

With his professional pride on the line, can Lazarus get through to this unshakable woman? Or will this unbeaten scarer be the one quaking in his boots?

This deal is for a limited time.
Please check, as the price may change.

My Review:

Ghosted is a funny short story about a haunting gone wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters. There's even a black cat! Harper is a ghost who is failing at frightening the owner of a home. Headquarters send Lazarus, a ghost who has made a name for himself, to investigate. The ending had me grinning from ear to ear!

About the Author:
H.L. Burke

Born in a small town in north central Oregon, H. L. Burke spent most of her childhood around trees and farm animals and always accompanied by a book. Growing up with epic heroes from Middle Earth and Narnia keeping her company, she also became an incurable romantic.

An addictive personality, she jumped from one fandom to another, being at times completely obsessed with various books, movies, or television series (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Star Trek all took their turns), but she has grown to be what she considers a well-rounded connoisseur of geek culture.

Married to her high school crush who is now a US Marine, she has moved multiple times in her adult life but believes home is wherever her husband, two daughters, and pets are.

Happy Halloween and a Linky

I chose today's photos because the colors are on the orange spectrum and orange reminds me of Halloween. The two flower photos were taken at home on the balcony. The other four photos were taken at a church bazaar this past Saturday. I'm posting this early to wish everyone a Happy Halloween. Whether you celebrate it or not, I wish you a great day and week ahead!

Halloween in SA with #Linky

Welcome to my Picture Perfect
Party Linky #215!

Friday after School
Amanda's Party

Halloween is not celebrated much in South Africa. The last three years I've come up with ways to make the day fun for Amanda, so that she won't feel like she's missing out. This year, on Friday, we did a dress-up party with a few friends after school. They first ate lunch and played at our house and then I took them all to the Karoo Desert Botanical Gardens where they had a treasure hunt for snacks and juice boxes and then a little picnic afterwards. We even saw several tortoises. All in all, it was great fun.

Friday Night
Samantha as Harley Quinn

Samantha went to a Halloween party that night. She created her own costume. She went as Harley Quinn and she would have borrowed a baseball bat for her prop, but she couldn't get a hold of one. The bat and ball game that is popular in South Africa is cricket. A cricket bat just doesn't look the same.
