Today's topic is on a serious note. This morning I was shocked to hear how people are being killed in the Philippines for using or selling drugs. I know that illegal drugs, drug addiction, and dealing drugs are a huge problem. What is scary is to think that almost 2,000 people have already died in just seven short weeks for being involved with drugs in some way or another. Nearly 700,000 users and peddlers have turned themselves in to the police because they fear for their lives. To find out more, read the BBC News article, Philippines War on Drugs.
On Sunday I will be preaching at RAEL, the drug rehab where my husband has been going twice a week to pray, teach, and encourage the recovering addicts there. Every time Hubby visits, he is blessed by the positive interaction he has with the guys. To find out more about RAEL, visit my blog post, Addiction Recovery Farm.
My eldest daughter recently saw a TED Talk on drugs and she shared it with us this evening. It was extremely interesting and enlightening. Everyone should watch this video!
"What really causes addiction — to everything from cocaine to smart-phones? And how can we overcome it? Johann Hari has seen our current methods fail firsthand, as he has watched loved ones struggle to manage their addictions. He started to wonder why we treat addicts the way we do — and if there might be a better way. As he shares in this deeply personal talk, his questions took him around the world, and unearthed some surprising and hopeful ways of thinking about an age-old problem."

My Review
Amanda and I had fun reading Selfies in the Wild together. The animals were cute and funny. Amanda's favorite part was of the photos that the author shared of real wildlife that she had captured on her own trail camera.
There is one little critter hiding in the story that appears only once and Amanda had to look hard before she finally found it. There is also a glossary of a few difficult words.
Selfies in the Wild can easily be enjoyed by girls and boys ages 3 - 7.
About C.L. Murphy
Cathy (C.L.) has been creating with and for kids for many years, and because of it she's ever armed with crayons and not afraid to use or share them. She’s faster than a speeding turtle, more powerful than a newborn bunny, and nearly able to leap tall tales in a single bound. She's in a position to use her unassuming powers in a never-ending battle for good and silliness while traveling to the deepest (sometimes dark) part of her imagination. She’s been a member of SCBWI since 2012. She lives in a wonder-filled forest, amongst the wildlife with her husband and other untamed animals. They have two wildly perfect sons and a scrumptious new granddaughter.

Do you have any favorite sports that you are watching in the Olympics? Right now I'm watching the Rhythmic Gymnastics on our TV here in South Africa. I love all the pretty outfits, colorful apparatuses, skill, and creativity. The ribbon is always the prettiest, and all the participants have amazing legs! My eldest daughter took rhythmic for a few years and made it to the South African Championships twice.

What countries are you following? I've got several that I have connections to like USA and SA, but I enjoy seeing any individual or team succeed, especially when the person says that it's the first medal for their country.
South Africa has had a few exciting moments. My favorite was seeing Wayde van Niekerk's record-breaking run in the 400m. It gave me the goosebumps! This morning I watched Henri Schoeman finish third in the men's triathlon. The South African's have earned 9 medals so far with 1 gold, 6 silvers, and 2 bronzes!
