Our Review:

Amanda (age 12) received Indescribable as a gift from her grandma a couple of years ago. It became a well-loved book that she has read about 4 times.

Amanda keeps the book by her bed. She likes that every new chapter is a new topic about natural science and God. She has learned a lot and thinks it’s very interesting.

I like the way the book is laid out with text and illustrations. It’s easy to follow with cool facts for kids. Louie Giglio helps kids to see God in science and makes learning fun.

Innovator: Adventure by Association the Everternia Saga by [Zen DiPietro]

About the Book:

Title: Innovator: Adventure by Association The Everternia Saga | Author: Zen DiPietro | Pages: 172 | Genre: Steampunk | Recommended Age: All Ages

Book Description:

A self-aware NPC takes on the machine she lives in.

Sally's taking control of her reality and kicking some butt in the process.

The more Sally learns about the world she lives in, the more she wants to improve it. Maybe that's the technie in her, or maybe it's her sense of justice. She's in charge of her life now, and she has a vision of a better Everternia, where people aren't such jerks all the time.

With an ever-growing group of friends, she'll find a way to make it happen.

For her, this is no game. This is her life.

Purchase on Amazon

My Review:

Innovator is the second book in the Everternia Saga. This is a whimsical steampunk story set in an RPG world. Sally is leading the way and her friends rally behind her. She has a magnetic personality.

The Everternia Saga explores living a meaningful life, building relationships, and creative thinking. I read this series to Amanda, my youngest daughter. It’s uplifting and fun. Often we found things that made us giggle. It’s a rare skill to write with heartfelt humor. Sadly, the ending was abrupt. Amanda and I wished there could have been a little more, maybe an Epilogue or something.

Britfield and the Lost Crown

Britfield and the Lost Crown

About the Book:

Title: Britfield and the Lost Crown | Author: C.R. Stewart | Publisher: Devonfield Publishing LLC | Pages: 361 | Genre: Historical Fiction | Recommended Ages: 9 and Up

Book Description:

Enter the World of Britfield: Adventure, Intrigue, Conspiracy, Mystery, and Suspense!

Tom has spent the majority of his life locked behind the cruel walls of Weatherly Orphanage, but when he learns that his parents might actually be alive, Tom is determined to find them. Together, with his best friend Sarah and armed with only the word "Britfield" as a clue to Tom's mysterious past, the two make a daring escape. Now, they are on the run from a famous Scotland Yard detective and what appears to be half of the police officers in England! The hunt is on, but will Tom and Sarah be able to evade capture long enough to solve an even bigger conspiracy that could tear apart the country?

Multiple Award-Winning Britfield and the Lost Crownby C.R. Stewart, is the first book in a thrilling seven-part series based on family, friendship, loyalty, and courage that is written for pre-teens, Y/A, and readers of all ages. Britfield and its heroes, Tom and Sarah, take readers on an epic adventure as they travel across England. With its stimulating language and stunning historical and geographical asides, Britfield engages the reader from the very first pages and doesn't let go until it reaches its exciting conclusion!

Purchase on Amazon:

Our Review:

I recently finished reading Britfield and the Lost Crown by C.R. Stewart to my youngest child, Amanda (age 11). The story begins with Tom and Sarah trapped in an orphanage where the children are exploited and deprived of an education and proper nourishment. Sarah remembers life before being an orphan, but Tom has spent most of his life as one and doesn't really remember much else. He only has one clue about his past and that is the name Britfield. While Tom and Sarah are on the run across England, they see neat places and meet interesting people. Their adventure takes them to London, but it doesn't end there!

Amanda says that the story gets more exciting once Tom and Sara escape the orphanage. She really liked the twist at the end. She thinks that it will make a great movie! I agree with her on all points. I also liked reading about the historical sites.

Things that could have been better: the orphanage scene was exaggerated and slow going, and sometimes there were too many words or a strange choice of words were used to describe how they said things.

Disclosure: Amanda and I received a Kindle copy of this book. This is our honest and voluntary review.

Baby dragons, adventure, and trouble – oh my!

Purchase on Amazon!

My Review:

Dragon Staff is the second episode of a brand new series by USA Today bestselling author Sarah K.L. Wilson. Princess Seleska finds herself in a lot of danger and discovers new allies. Her little water dragon, Nasataa, is always by her side and growing quickly. We learn a bit about Seleska's and Nasataa's destinies. It's not what you would expect. We get to see more of her love interest, the blacksmith apprentice named Heron, too. Just when the story gets intense, it ends! At least the author is releasing a new episode every eighteen days, so I won't have to wait long. The Dragon Tide series is written with a younger voice, so I recommend it for middle grade readers and young adults.

I received an ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.

The Heart-Shaped Chest

The Heart-Shaped Chest: Adventure by Association the Everternia Saga by [DiPietro, Zen]

About the Book:

Title: The Heart-Shaped Chest: Adventure by Association the Everternia Saga | Author: Zen DiPietro | Genre: Steampunk | Recommended Age: All Ages

Book Description:

Equip new adventurers. Send them out to find their way in Everternia. Sally's purpose has always been clear.

Until one adventurer treats her like a real person, rather than just a piece of interactive scenery, and opens up a whole new understanding of herself and the world around her. Life becomes a puzzle, and there's nothing Sally loves more than a good puzzle.

Can Sally Streetmonger become a real adventurer, and choose her own destiny? She has only ever known the inside of her store, but there's a growing hunger within her to find out more. To see everything.

To find adventure.

"The Heart-Shaped Chest" is a short story. Sally's adventures will continue with her first full-length book, Trailblazer.

FREE on Amazon!

My Review:

This is a fun short story and an introduction to Sally before her adventures begin. She's a cute character with a limited vocabulary who is programmed to run her store and nothing more. There's a bully who comes into her shop regularly, but Sally never complains. However, someone else notices her and treats her like a real person. That's when Sally begins to have a taste for more than just her restricted life. I can't wait to read further!

I got the idea that my family would enjoy Zen DiPietro's latest story, so on a longish drive my 18-year-old daughter Samantha read it to us in the car. It was a hit with everyone, including my husband and adult son! My 11-year-old daughter Amanda wasn't ready for it to end and wants to continue following the series. I was surprised that I enjoyed it even more the second time around!

Sugarplums and Mistletoe (Christmas in Willow Falls Book 2) by [Pennington, Michelle]

About the Book:

Title: Sugarplums and Mistletoe (Christmas in Willow Falls Book 2)| Author: Michelle Pennington | Pages: 147 | Genre: Clean Christmas Romance

Book Description:

He's her biggest competition. She's his greatest temptation.

Ruth Haynes is excited to start another Christmas season selling cookies from her store, Sugar Lips Cookie Company, on Old Main Street in Willow Falls. Everything is shaping up for her to have another successful year—that is until competition comes to town in the form of Mason Baker, the guy who broke her heart in high school. When he opens a chocolate store next door, her cookie business starts to crumble. Still, she can’t help but notice that he’s even more attractive and charming now, and no doubt he still gets everything he wants in life. Too bad he’s never wanted her.

Mason has come back to his hometown to open his very own business selling chocolate after studying under world-class chocolatiers in Europe. He risked everything he has on this new venture so he can't afford any distractions, especially from Ruth, who is definitely all grown up. Totally distracted by her beauty and talent, he can’t help but try to break down her defenses. Just when she begins to open up, however, his decision to bid against her for the catering job her business depends on threatens to ruin everything.

To find true success, Ruth and Mason must let go of everything they thought they wanted and create a life that’s truly sweet.

Purchase on Amazon

My Review:

Sugarplums and Mistletoe is an uncomplicated romance about a curvy girl who owns a cookie shop and a handsome athlete whom she knew from high school who opens a chocolate shop next door. The competition is on, but the chemistry is too! Ruth was never popular at school, but she still had a crush on popular Mason who once told his friends that he'd never date her. Now that he's back, her confidence is still shaken. It doesn't help that Mason's chocolates will draw more clients than her cookies. Will they be able to embrace the chemistry with the competition?

If you're a fan of science fiction action and adventure, The Lights of Time is the book for you.

Purchase on Amazon:
Kindle | Paperback

Our Review:

Amanda and I love The Lights of Time. It's a high adventure, science-fiction, time travel story. This is the first book in The Chronicles of Engella Rhys. The author, Paul Ian Cross, has been working on this series for a while now to make sure that all the events in the future books line up correctly. I'm sure it's a daunting task. For us as readers, it's just a lot of fun!

Engella is a 17-year-old girl who was separated by her parents when she was young while they were fleeing from the Hunters. Her parents were part of a small team that developed the time travel technology that Hunting Corporation stole and wants to control completely. Engella is always on the run from the Hunters. They want the shiftbands that her parents created and she has one of them. Engella just wants to find her parents, but the more she travels, the more she learns, and the more determined she becomes to put things straight.

Amanda (age 10) loves that Engella can go back to her past self and also Annys's. She likes that they can travel into different times and in the future there are bots. She was really happy that Engella could clone a pet. She's really excited to find out what will happen in the next book and if some of the Hunters are still alive or not.

My Review:

Fallow, Book 2 in The Green Princess Trilogy, is even more exciting than the first book! There are more characters, more plot twists, and more romance. They face betrayal, unrequited love, and death, but there's also loyalty, love, and new life. Friendships are forged, while bonds are broken. Peace is falsely offered, while war is eminent. This story is appropriate for young adults and up, but the life experiences are especially suited for older teenagers and new adults.
