My Epic Romantic Fantasy is on Sale!

I hope everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving had a great one! It was a regular day in South Africa. I was teaching English and Amanda was writing an Economics Management Science exam. It's the end of her Grade 8 year and exam time. I decided to keep things simple by choosing American-themed food instead of traditional Thanksgiving fare. My husband pitched in and his help allowed for the day to go smoothly. We began with blueberry pancakes. For lunch, we had BLT sandwiches, and for dinner KFC. Overall, it was a good day.

Everyone should read at least one feel-good book during the Christmas holidays, and since I decided to put my ebook on sale for a few days, I've made it super easy for you. The Novice by C.A. Morley (that's me!) is on sale until 29 Nov. '22 for only $0.99! If you enjoy Epic Romantic Fantasy, then don't miss this sale. My novel has lots of adventure, several near escapes, sweet romance, and witty banter. Be sure to spread the word or give it as a gift! The paperback version is already available on Amazon. I'm still working on publishing it wide like my ebook.

Celebrating Thanksgiving in South Africa and a Linky

I was telling people that we wouldn't be doing any special cooking for Thanksgiving this year, but my daughter Samantha had other ideas. Hubby bought a roast chicken to save on effort. Samantha baked Hasselback potatoes, roasted a pre-marinaded pork belly, roasted veggies including butternut and sweet peppers, and I made coleslaw and boiled the sweetcorn. Samantha and Amanda made dessert. It was a peach cobbler with custard. Everything was delicious and eating the leftovers made the time spent in the kitchen worth it!

We had all three girls home for Thanksgiving, which was awesome. Tomorrow, our son is turning 25 and he'll be visiting us for a few days before he has to go back to work. He lives just over an hours' drive away from us. It will be super having all our kids home for a change!

An Expat Thanksgiving and a Linky

We try to do something special every Thanksgiving, but since it's not a holiday celebrated in South Africa, we often have to compromise. We invited our neighbor and she said it was her first Thanksgiving. Our son couldn't make it, becaus he was working. Also, this year we were having a heat wave and so we decided to eat only cold food. That meant that we roasted the turkey the night before. Also, my husband said there was only one brand of turkey at the grocery store, so next year we'll try a different grocery chain store to see if they offer a better option.

The decorations were all brought over by my mom two Christmases ago when she and my stepdad were visitng from the States. My husband is the South African side of our family and he's a real star! When I got home from last minute grocery shopping early Wednesday evening with the girls, the turkey was already in the oven. Amanda made the cupcakes all by herself from scratch and they were yummy! We made a whipping cream icing (frosting) by adding icing sugar (powdered sugar) and a bit of vanilla essence and yellow food coloring.

Happy Thanksgiving and 2 Free eBooks!

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

I have 2 free eBooks for you today! I haven't read either book, but I plan to read something from the Thanksgiving book out loud to the family, especially the Thanksgiving jokes, today. It's not a picture book, but there is an illustration at the start of each story. For this reason, I think kids around ages 6 - 8 will enjoy the stories more than the younger ones. And, no one is too old for jokes! The second book is a steampunk adventure that I've been wanting to read. I was so excited to see the author list it for free for the Thanksgiving weekend!

An Expat Thanksgiving and a Linky

Today's photos are of our Thanksgiving dinner in South Africa. It was low-key, but a lot of fun and hassle free. The best part was that all of our kids were at home. There might not have been a turkey, but we did have pizza, corn on the cob, coke, root beer and Reese's peanut butter cups. Amanda was horrified when I poured root beer into her plastic cup. She thought it was beer. The last time we had it was in the States and that was four years ago. This particular one, Frankie's old style root beer, is made in South Africa. It was really good.

Expat Thanksgiving with Linky

Welcome to my Picture Perfect
Party Linky #219!

I hope everyone from the States had a blessed Thanksgiving! We also celebrated Thanksgiving and prepared mostly traditional dishes like the Turkey and stuffing. Two dishes that are traditionally South African that we also had were pumpkin fritters and custard. I was so glad that my mother-in-law could join us and that our eldest son was home from university. Since it's not a holiday in South Africa, there have been Thanksgiving dinners where one or two kids were away like on a school camp.
