Reading Time

When my first three children were younger, I used to read to them in the evenings. It wasn’t always a regular occurrence, but over time I managed to finish entire books including the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis.

With Amanda, our reading time is usually at naptime. Not only is reading to her a valuable part of her development, but it’s also good quality time for just the two of us.

“I have never known any distress that an hour’s reading did not relieve.” ― Charles-Louis De Secondat Montesquieu

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales.” – Einstein

"You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child." – Dr. Seuss

When do you read to your child?

Don’t forget to follow me on Pinterest where you can read more great quotes that I’ve pinned and other cool stuff.

I also recommend that you read my post Introducing Your Child to the World of Books.

  1. Although i don't have children yet I know how important reading to them is. And when I do have children it is something that I would include into our everyday routine. When they first started to learn how to read, did they read back to you?

    1. Thanks Jamie for popping in and leaving a comment! This is my parenting blog, but I hope you too can find a home here.

As for reading back to me... I remember the kids took turns reading portions from the Bible to us when we had devotions together and of course there were their little readers that they had to practice from and such. Amanda can't read yet, but she narrates back to me. This is also very important and I've posted about this here at http://abooksandmore.blogspot.com/2012/03/two-days-of-horse-stories-part-1.html

I'm not the perfect parent nor do I home school, although I did try it once, and I'm impatient and don't usually help much with homework. Thankfully, my husband usually helps with homework. :)

I wish you all the best when you have your own kids!
