Book Description:

Since Caitlin and Trevor vowed to assist the Otherworld and opened their enchanted antique shop, they've seen many strange things. But now, someone comes in asking for a mundane item: kitschy "witches" brooms. Has their magical life returned to normal?

As the couple prepares to host a family gathering, fate intervenes and something they've never seen before roars into their life: A creature out of Welsh legend and fantasy: A blundering, somewhat underdeveloped dragon--not at all the type of dragon they ever expected to meet...

...who knew dragons existed in Gulf Breeze?

Forced to undertake his unique challenge, Caitlin and Trevor are perplexed by his demands, but the magical beast is certain they are the only witches who can help him.

Doing so might unlock an ancient hidden secret. Refusing might destroy them.

My Review:

This is Book 5 in the Antique Magic series, but it can be read as a standalone. It has a slow gentle start and reads like a cozy mystery. It's a lighthearted story that's dialogue driven. It's more of a girly story than my usual read. One topic that comes up is bullying and the reason it gets mentioned is quite interesting. I suggest curling up in your favorite spot with a cuddly blanket and cup of tea when reading it! I received an ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.

The Beach at Britannia Bay and a Linky

These beach photos were taken at Britannia Bay, on South Africa's West Coast, during the golden hour. If you wonder why it looks cold, it's because we were experiencing the end of Winter. Living below the Equator means our seasons are opposite. Amanda took the pic of Hubby and me. Ziggy, the Miniature Schnauzer, belongs to Amanda's grandparents.

Book Description:

The skies have gone rogue. Space can't be tamed. And magic is a law unto itself.

Transport yourself to new worlds where dark magic clashes with witty witches, diabolic demons, feisty fae, and sexy shifters. Or travel through time and space with cosmic spies, space thieves, and telepathic pirates. Add in a dash of Victorian heroes and inhuman soldiers, and you have a one-of-a-kind science fiction and fantasy collection of intoxicating proportions.

Fans of Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, Anne McCaffrey, John Scalzi or Sarah J. Maas, Leigh Bardugo, Tamora Pierce, Lois Lowry, and Maria V. Snyder will find themselves transported to weird realms and epic otherworlds in this reality-optional boxset.

Rogues and Rebels, Magic and Mayhem, Futures and Fantasy—there's no limit to the excitement that awaits when you turn the pages of this collection of spellbinding adventures from some of today's best-selling Science Fiction and Fantasy authors.

My Review:

I'm posting an honest and voluntary review for one of the stories inside the box set. I purchased the box set, but I also have an ARC for Connecting by Joynell Schultz. It's a science-fiction/paranormal romance about a human named Jana who is trying to save Earth and ends up connecting with an alien in outer space. The story keeps a good pace and there are different relationships that Jana has to process how to handle. It's her love for her younger brother that keeps her going. She has to be strong and keeps a brave face in a very trying time. One of her vices is turning to alcohol to numb her feelings. I'm a volunteer at a drug and alcohol rehab in South Africa and I think the author did a brilliant job with this aspect of the story. I don't want to give too much away. One or two things that I thought were going to be weak points in the story turned out not to be, and there's an interesting twist at the end. This is the prequel to Departing, which I also thoroughly enjoyed.

Birthday at the Beach and a Linky

We celebrated my father-in-law's 70th birthday last weekend at their beach house in Britannia Bay. The people in the photos are of my in-laws, his sister and mother, as well as us and our 4 kids. The Miniature Schnauzer belongs to my in-laws and his name is Ziggy. We all enjoyed a leisurely lunch that was brought to the house by caterers. The weather was perfect. It's springtime in South Africa.

The Billionaire's Black Book (Newport Billionaires, Book 1) by [DeLuca, Amy]

What I'm reading ~ Realm of Beasts by Angela J. Ford ~ It's the first book in the Legend of the Nameless One series. I'm 20% of the way through. The author puts a lot of creativity in her writing and she incorporates deeper themes, like the importance of storytelling. It's a little confusing at first as you get introduced to descriptive regions and diverse characters. There is Tor Lir, the Nameless One, who leaves his lands of immortals and ventures to the world of mortals. He's out of his depth, but he feels compelled to bring balance and so he perseveres. Then there's Citrine who wanders into Paradise and wants to stay, but she's made a promise and it's messing with her perfect world. #socksunday #weekendreads #whatimreading #fantasy #fiction #adventure #action #suspense #romance #bookreview @aford21

The Billionaire's Black Book

The Billionaire's Black Book

The Billionaire's Black Book (Newport Billionaires, Book 1) by [DeLuca, Amy]

About the Book:

Title: The Billionaire's Black Book | Author: Amy DeLuca | Publisher: Oxford South Press | Pages: 238 | Genre: Clean Contemporary Romance/Fairytale Retelling

Book Description:

She's been sent into the lair of the beast...
Newspaper writer Bonnie Hamelin has just been handed a dream assignment from her senior editor—an exclusive interview with billionaire author Jack R. R. Bestia, whose hugely popular fantasy series has been made into a hit cable show adored by millions of fans worldwide.

Correction—it should be a dream assignment, but for Bonnie, the prospect of interviewing this particular author seems more like a nightmare. It’s not just that he has a reputation for being reclusive and temperamental. And it’s not that she doesn’t like Jack’s books—in fact, she loves them—he's her favorite author of all-time. But the first (and last) time they met… well, let’s just say she didn’t make the best impression.

This beauty's brains terrify him...
Superstar author Jack Bestia does not have any interest in doing an interview. He does have:
-a huge deadline looming
-a strong preference for privacy
-some pretty nasty scars from his last relationship
-and a big, BIG secret.
He definitely doesn’t want a snooping reporter anywhere near his seaside Newport, Rhode Island mansion. Unfortunately, his publisher isn’t interested in his preferences, his schedule, or his excuses. The seventh and final book in his bestselling series is two years overdue, and Jack’s on thin ice, at risk of getting cut from the publishing house altogether. He has no choice but to welcome Bonnie into his private world.
But he doesn’t have to make it easy for her.
He’ll act every bit as beastly as the tabloids have claimed he does, and she won’t want to spend a minute longer in his presence than absolutely necessary. That plan—and an iron-clad non-disclosure agreement—will ensure that no one finds out the awful truth.

When Bonnie’s curiosity gets the better of her and she sees the wrong thing at the wrong time in the wrong place… Jack takes drastic measures, forcing her to stay in his secluded seaside castle until his new book comes out, a virtual prisoner. It’s the only way to protect his secret.

Unfortunately, he failed to anticipate the effect this clever and determined beauty might have on his household… and his heart.

My Review:

This is a sweet contemporary romance that's also a retelling of my favorite fairytale, Beauty and the Beast! The story is well written and the pace is good. Although there isn't any magic, the author still manages to weave in generous amounts of iconic features from Beauty and the Beast. The characters are also likable. It's a standalone story, but the epilogue sets the scene for the next book in the series.
