The Lovely Deep and a Linky

Brand New Release!
The Lovely Deep
by Michelle Pennington

The Lovely Deep (The Mer Song Trilogy Book 1) by [Pennington, Michelle]

About the Book:

Title: The Lovely Deep (The Mer Song Trilogy Book 1) | Author: Michelle Pennington | Pages: 287 | Genre: Urban Fantasy | Recommended Age: Young Adult and up

Book Description:

She's fallen for a human, but how can you love one man while stealing another?

Narissa's not just any mermaid. She's a siren.

She has the power to lure men into the sea, but all she wants is to live peacefully with them on land. Unfortunately, the mers are evolving and they're depending on her for human mates to keep their bloodlines pure.

Rebellion burns in Narissa's heart, especially when her mother commands her to do her duty and return to the depths. She knows a way out, but asking a favor of Poseidon is too great a risk.

When she falls for River, a man who makes her feel wanted and whole, she decides it's worth the risk. But her choice pulls River unwillingly into her world where greedy mermaids hunt, seas rage, monsters lurk...

And her enemy controls them all.

Can she save her people without losing the man she loves?

This is a clean romantic fantasy.

My Review:

I've been observing the new hype around mermaids, which seems to be the latest trend in fiction and wondering if it would hold my interest. I decided to give The Lovely Deep a try and found myself hooked! Michelle Pennington has written a compelling story about mermaids and humans with plenty of action, suspense, and romance. The characters were well-rounded and some moments were even scary. It's the first book in the Mer Song Trilogy, and even though the story isn't over, it still manages a sweet open-ended finish. This mermaid story is one you'll probably not want to miss!

Sheela the Cat and a Linky

We own two cats, but I rarely manage to get a good photo of Sheela. She belongs to Amanda and Amanda named her. She loves Amanda, but she's skittish around people. Prince, on the other hand, loves people and enjoys being around me when I'm taking photos in the house or garden. He'll even photobomb my shots! If you missed last week's photos, then check out Proteas and Prince.

Ice and Embers: Steampunk Snow Queen (Steampunk Fairy Tales Book 2) by [Karsak, Melanie]

About the Book:

Title: Ice and Embers (Steampunk Fairy Tales Book 2) | Author: Melanie Karsak | Publisher: Clockpunk Press | Pages: 240 | Genre: Steampunk Fantasy | Recommended Age: New Adult

Book Description:

It takes more than passion and pixie dust to thaw a frozen heart.

With the 1814 London Frost Fair in full swing, actress Elyse McKenna's performance in A Midwinter Night's Dream thrills the crowd. But Elyse's backstage has life is beginning to take on a distinctly Shakespearean flavor.

When she fell in love with Lord John Waldegrave, Elyse was prepared to keep their affair secret. But she wasn't ready for her new love to rock her relationship with her dearest friend, Doctor Kai Murray.

Everything Elyse thought she knew about her feelings for her old friend is flipped upside down when an enchanting ship captain turns her attention to Kai.

If Elyse hopes to escape the Thames with her heart intact, she must discover the truth about the captain, Kai, John, and her own feelings--before it's too late.

Ice and Embers is a retelling of the classic Snow Queen fairy tale set in New York Times best-selling author Melanie Karsak's steampunk universe. Journey to gaslamp London during the 19th century to see how Melanie puts a steampunk spin in this reimagined fairytale.

Purchase on Amazon:
Kindle | Paperback

My Review:

Wow! Melanie Karsak is a talented writer! She successfully weaves Shakespeare with fairy tales in this historical fantasy romance. She includes layers of magic and science, theater and real life. Your heart goes out to the characters and new ones get introduced along the way making you wonder how they all fit together. This also adds to the suspense and I found my heart thumping hard in different scenes. It's a twisted story that will keep you in knots until the end!

I recommend this book for older teenagers and up, because of the mature content.

Proteas and Prince with a Linky

When we got back from the States, my mother-in-law had cleaned the house and left us these beautiful protea flowers, which are indigenous to South Africa. I felt so blessed! Then another day we were given the lilies. Prince is in several of the pics.

Chains of Command Books 1 and 2

New Blood
Chains of Command Book 1

My Review:

I had a lot of fun reading New Blood (Book 1) and I can't wait for Blood and Bone (Book 2)! Most of Zen's books are young adult appropriate with older characters (as they are fairly clean), but this new series has young adults in them and certainly the first book has a young adult voice.

We meet Emiko (Fallon) at age 16 in Book 1 and as she gets older in the book, the voice also matures. It's a coming-of-age story and best suited for older teenagers and new adults. There's lots of action with interesting characters and unique adventures. The ending is satisfying (no cliffhangers!), but I can't wait for more!

Purchase on Amazon:

Blood and Bone
Chains of Command Book 2

My Review:

Blood and Bone is the second book in the fun and exciting Chains of Command series. Find out how Fallon digs deep to lead Avian Unit well. Learn more about the individual teammates and how they learn to work together as a team. And, come for the ride as they face their greatest challenge yet!

Zen writes great science-fiction and this series is suitable for young adults.

Meeting Author C.S. Johnson and a Weekend Linky!

Me and C.J. this past July in Atlanta

I had a blast this past June-July in the States and I got to meet two very special authors! A couple of weeks ago I shared about Meeting Author H.L. Burke in San Diego. Another dear author is C.S. Johnson (aka C.J.) who met my two eldest kids, Jeremiah and Jessica, in Atlanta this past January (ahead of me). I'm including a photo below of C.J. with Jessica that I shared before.

This past July it was my turn! C.J. is a prolific writer and I already own several of her young adult books. She also helped me get my non-fiction book in eBook and paperback format for Amazon. I'm including photos of a few of her books, a mug she gave me for participating in her Once Upon a Princess blog tour, and my own book. I also once did an author interview of her that you can check out here!

About the Author:
C.S. Johnson

C.S. Johnson is the author of several young adult novels, including sci-fi and fantasy adventures such as the Starlight Chronicles series, the Once Upon a Princess saga, and the Divine Space Pirates trilogy.
