The Vexatious Widow

The Vexatious Widow

The Vexatious Widow (Regency House Party: Havencrest Book 2) by [Pennington, Michelle]

About the Book:

Title: The Vexatious Widow (Regency House Party: Havencrest Book 2) | Author: Michelle Pennington | Genre: Regency Romance | Pages: 130

Book Description:

A most unlikely temptation.

Mrs. Joanna Thorne infinitely prefers being a wealthy widow to being a miserable wife, but she is constantly swarmed by suitors with eager, insincere compliments. Fortunately, she has become quite adept at handling fortune hunters. When she meets Lord Tyndale at her friends’ house party, she knows she can help him thwart the charming rascal pursuing his niece. But why does it annoy him so? And why does she care for his good opinion anyway?

The last thing Lord Tyndale wants to do is accompany his beautiful, headstrong niece to a house party in Brighton. However, it is the only way to protect her from a disastrous marriage to the wastrel pursuing her. He should appreciate the help of a rather plain and meddlesome but capable young widow, but he finds himself increasingly annoyed as Joanna skillfully captures the fortune hunter’s attention.

She throws his life into disarray, won’t give him a moment’s peace, and drives him mad. So why does he find her so tempting? And why is he dreading the end of this very irregular house party?

My Review:

Michelle Pennington is one of my favorite genre hopping authors. Every book of hers that I've read, I've enjoyed; from fantasy to contemporary romance, she does them all so well. This time it's a Regency romance and this one has all the feels! There are wonderful characters, a beautiful location, a little bit of suspense, and lots of witty banter. It's a fun clean read. There were some elements that could have been fleshed out further. For example, I thought Lord Tyndale would need to put his fencing skills to good use, but it only gets mentioned and nothing more. I wished the book could have been longer!

Michelle Pennington spends her days quoting movies with her husband and making messes faster than her four kids. She loves to make magic by stringing words together, but she also creates designer sugar cookies, sings loud in church, and kills too many house plants.

Rescuing a Young Tortoise and a Linky

My husband gets the spotlight today! He's a conscientious South African. He rescued this young tortoise on a tricky stretch of road in the picturesque Nuy Valley. It has vineyards and olive groves surrounded by mountains. I have more pics of the Nuy Valley on 1camera1mom. And, the tortoise got over that barbed wire like a pro!

The Billionaire's Temporary Marriage

The Billionaire's Temporary Marriage

The Billionaire's Temporary Marriage (The Limitless Clean Billionaire Romance Series Book 3) by [Dearen, Tamie]

About the Book:

Title: The Billionaire's Temporary Marriage | Author: Tamie Dearen | Pages: 291 | Genre: Clean Romance

Book Description:

When a stranger with a lime-green mechanical hand drenches her in coffee, the last thing Brooke expects is a marriage proposal from a famous hot billionaire.

A marriage of convenience… so tempting. Brooke Ponzio can’t argue against Cole’s flawless logic. The divorce settlement will solve all the money-troubles for Brooke and her unborn child. If only Cole wasn’t so mouth-wateringly delicious. Should she risk having her heart broken again?

Cole Miller refuses to fall in love. Not ever! That’s why he chose Brooke to get him out of his ill-advised contract. All she wants is sole custody of her baby, so when the time comes, she'll give him a stress-free divorce. Sure, they'll have to make the marriage look real to their parents and the rest of the world. And they'll need to forget all about that sizzling kiss they shared. Should be simple. What could possibly go wrong?

Soon, their magnetic draw has them both battling to maintain their willpower. But Brooke slowly falls in love with the man who treats her better than any man ever has, while Cole’s attraction is purely physical. Or at least that’s what he tells himself.

How will Brooke handle her sleazy ex-husband when he tries to cash in on her fame? What happens when Cole can’t protect Brooke from his crazed fans? Will he admit his feelings before it’s too late?

Note from the author: The Billionaire's Temporary Marriage is an inspirational romance, the third of the Limitless Clean Billionaire Romance Series, which centers on heroes with disabilities.

My Review:

This is a great series with imperfect people finding love. There are four kingpins with different disabilities who own Phantom Enterprises and are best friends. It doesn't hurt that they're all billionaires! Cole is the third bachelor to meet his match, but he guards his heart and doesn't trust women. His birth mother gave him up for adoption as an infant and he suspects it's because he was born without part of his arm. Brooke doesn't mind his green mechanical arm, but she's had enough of controlling men and doesn't need Cole telling her what to do. These two don't trust each other, but circumstance thrust them together.

I think the author took a unique angle on the marriage of convenience trope. There's character growth and just enough feels to balance the angst. I'm looking forward to Book 4!

A Special Tribute to My Stepbrother and a Linky

Amanda, Jeremiah, and Jessica with their Grandma and Grandpa.
Samantha was at university and only joined us later in the week.

My dad, stepmom and stepbrother flew out to Cape Town 2 weeks ago to visit us and to celebrate my dad's 70th. The neat thing was that my stepbrother's birthday was the same day, so we had a double celebration! It was also our first time meeting him. I ordered the birthday cake, which was enjoyed by all, and my stepbrother brought the Hennessy, which was enjoyed by the men.

No words can express how awful we are feeling after receiving the shocking news that my stepbrother passed away this morning! Our prayers are with his loved ones at the time.

My dad, my son, my stepbrother and Mandela

The birthday cake we ate in the evening and the fruit salad
we had with the birthday breakfast.

The Hennessy compliments of my stepbrother.
The indoor fire compliments of my husband.

Daughter of Sun, Bride of Ice

Daughter of Sun, Bride of Ice
Ice and Fate Duology Book 1

Book Description:

To save a kingdom, she must lose her heart.

Born a princess in a land where the sun never sets, Arynne longs for the freedom to use her inborn magic. When an emissary from the dark side of the world requests an alliance sealed by marriage, Arynne jumps at a chance to escape the rules of her homeland, even if it means marrying a prince she's never met and never seeing the sun again.

The starlit kingdom of Frorheim believes that only a marriage of a Solean Sun Princess to their Star Prince will thwart the return of a feared sorcerer. Arynne meets the qualifications, but the journey is perilous. Even more dangerous to Arynne, however, is her growing attraction to the roguish Frorian soldier, Kajik.

In the throes of true love, Arynne rues her betrothal to the unknown prince. Can she follow her heart knowing that if she forsakes her vow, Frorheim is doomed, and herself along with it?

A Sneak Peek of Book 1:

Sigid bounced over to the vanity table that held jars of cosmetics and toiletries, picked out a small jar, and returned to dump the contents into the water. Dark caramel and purple red swirled outward from where the powder dissolved. A strangely familiar scent rose from it, slightly floral but with spicy undertones of cardamom, cinnamon, and honey.

Arynne’s brow furrowed. She knew that fragrance, but not in this context. “What did you put in the tub, Sigid?”

“Oh!” The maid clapped her hands. “A few days ago, while you were still abed, a merchant stopped at the market near the palace. He had so many delightful herbs and fragrances. When he told me this blend was from Solea, I just had to get it for you.”

Arynne bit back a snort. The mention of Solea put the pieces together, and she knew where she’d smelled this particular aroma. Imagine what her countrymen would think, their princess bathing in the traditional afternoon tea.

Winter at the Beach House

Hi Friends! I apologize for last week's blog hop that stopped working. The site is still unavailable. I've been using a free linky service, since I blog for fun and I'm not making any money from it. I hope you will continue to visit and see what we've been up to even without my weekly blog hop. If you want me to visit a blog post, then please leave a link with a comment. I delete all spam and anything that looks like spam.

Last week my dad, stepmom, and stepbrother came to visit us in South Africa. Since they had to fly nearly halfway around the world, it was kind of a big deal. We don't see each other often and it was my first time meeting my stepbrother. We had a lot of fun in a very short time and I've included photos below of them and my husband at Leipzig.

Last weekend we all went to my in-laws' beach house and a beach house rental nearby, since we were such a big group. This is Amanda at her granparents' beach house with their miniature Schnauzer named Ziggy. The lavender flowers are in their garden.
