Make My Saturday Sweet - Blog Hop #41

"The hardest part about my day is..."

...washing those dishes that can’t go in the dishwasher and organizing the papers that end up on the kitchen counter. I hate seeing things in a mess, but I would much rather be blogging.

I never enjoyed cleaning. Ever.

The kids have different chores and they keep the same jobs unless they decide to swap (with our permission). This means that there is less organizing happening from our side and less squabbling from theirs.

Samantha, Jessica and Jeremiah in 2005

For several years, it was one of Jeremiah’s jobs to wash the pots and pans after dinner. Recently, he swapped this task with his sister, Jessica. That means that I only have a few items that I need to wash every day like lunch boxes and water bottles that belong to Amanda and me. (I have a part-time job and a volunteer job, hence the lunch boxes and water bottles.) The big kids have to do their own. So, if that’s the hardest part of my day, then I guess I don’t have much to complain about.

I also have a maid that comes once a week for half a day. She’s wonderful! I guess my life is pretty good.

That doesn’t mean that I don’t have challenges. I’ve been snubbed by white Afrikaans women at times. Then there are other Afrikaans women who are just too scared to talk in English, which I totally understand. I also understand some Afrikaans, so it’s not a big deal to me, but they are unwilling to meet me half way.

Of course, most South Africans, no matter their race or culture, are usually friendly. However, they tend to stick to their own friends and family. That means my hubby and I don’t have too many adult friends that hang-out with us. I’m sure apartheid is part to blame, but so are the Boer Wars.

Because I have a need to connect with people, I blog.

Our kids have fared much better. When they have birthday parties, it’s like having a mini United Nations get-together and the kids all get along.

Let me see, what is the hardest part of my day - housework. I would rather be blogging! :) Nevertheless I get through everything eventually. I love the quotes and the pictures are oh so beautiful Christina. I am also linking up with Friendship Friday and my answers are on my blog post. Thanks a lot for hosting and enjoy the rest of your week.
My recent post Question Time
Oh I hate cleaning, too. But if I don't do it no one else will around here. And god how I wish I had a maid even for an hour a week. So jealous for sure!! Thank you Christina for linking up and linked back with you, too. Have a great weekend!! :)
The hardest part of my day .... is going to sleep at night! The minute my head hits the pillow my mind goes into hyper drive! I start thinking of everything I need to get done and all the things I would rather do!

Thanks for hosting! Have a terrific weekend!

Cathy
Oddly enough, I have always enjoyed cleaning (except for the bathroom- I don't like that) but once you have a kid or kids it is impossible to find time to do it! And it seems as if right after you clean the mess reappears. Your kids are gorgeous!
I like connecting through blogging as well!

I actually enjoy cleaning, but emptying and loading the dishwasher is one of my least favorite tasks too!

Oh yes, cleaning. Ugh. Hate it. We have a woman who comes in every two weeks, which is so nice. And I adore your gorgeous photos and the captions on each!
My recent post Ghetto DIY. A homemade carwash.
The first thing that popped into my head was my morning coffee! So hard to have some peace and quiet first thing in the morning! Thanks for a fun blog hop :)
My recent post Why aren't they paying attention???
Cleaning. Yeah, totally on board with that. Although everyone leaves me alone when I'm doing it, so there's the upside. ;)
As for the rest, It's been so hard for me to make friends in our new town in a state I grew up in; I can't imagine having to move to a whole new country! Kudos to you.

My recent post As long as the kids don’t throw up on the boat
How neat to see the pictures of your kids then and now. I don't like cleaning either, but I also don't like clutter. I end up with a lot of piles. Although right now, it looks like I don't mind clutter at all. It's painful to look at though.
My recent post Stick a Cork In It! (Weekend Update #17)
I had my hubby vow to cook, clean and slave after me.

I've been looking for new blogs to 'case' and interesting ways to share the social media love so have started a blog link up myself today. As your blog is already on our 'worth casing' list would really love it if you could pop over and link up. Raych (aka Mystery Case)

Thanks for popping over and linking up!
My recent post Let's talk about my most embarrassing moment
I'm kind of weird because I actually sort of enjoy cleaning. I'm a little OCD and I find it therapeutic. Isn't that wacky?! LOL And I can't get my kids to lift a finger, but I'm one of those people who would go crazy if it wasn't done the way I wanted. I know. I need to work on that! ;)

I want to invite you to join in on my Monday hop. You can post any of your favorite posts - as many as you like. It's a fun bunch of bloggers each week, so it's good reading! Hope you can join us! http://wp.me/p3F9ax-nk
I used to dislike housework, but ever since I've discovered podcasts I like doing my chores. Now I do the dishes or the laundry with my earphones on, listening to something interesting. :)
