Holiday Cakes with Weekend Linky

Welcome to my weekend blog hop -
Make My Saturday Sweet #207!

I have had so many neat things to share on this blog that I still have Christmas holiday photos! My mother-in-law made two holiday cakes, besides all of the wonderful meals. By the way, she is fearless in the kitchen. She used to own a small restaurant and country inn that served fine dining. She was also the head chef and she is mostly self-taught.

On our Christmas holiday, she made the fruit cake. Jessica and Samantha decorated it with a snowman while Amanda watched. He looks like he's dancing a jig.

For Christmas lunch, my mother-in-law made a Bombe Alaska (Baked Alaska). Instead of baking it in the oven, she used a blow torch. The one she had was for removing paint, but that didn't deter her! We kept screeching at her and making her laugh in the kitchen as we watched her set the sugar in the meringue on fire. Somehow, she managed to keep the delicate fresh raspberries around the bottom of it intact!

Oh my goodness! Your M-I-L is brave with that torch. Her cakes look amazing though. Thank you for the linky and have a fantastic weekend.

That baked Alaska photo cracked me up - it looks so dramatic! I've never had that dish before, but it looks delicious.
I don't think I could manage the torch without first responders nearby, but I'm terribly impressed with the outcome. Gorgeous!
These sweet treats look marvelous! And your MIL with the blow torch is classic! Making memories! Thanks for the link up and have a fabulous weekend!

Thank you, Meg! Have a great week ahead!
I LOVE fruitcake! My late grandmother made it every year for Christmas. One year I attempted to make one similar to hers' as we we couldn't find her recipe, but it just wasn't the same. Hope you're having a great weekend :)

Too bad she didn't pass her beloved recipe down. My grandmother has a few favorites too and she won't be around forever. Right now I'm missing her gazpacho. Cold soup is perfect in summer and we are feeling the heat! It's still kind of strange for me seeing the opposite weather photos being shared with snow and all. I still associate Christmas with winter and I've been here for 20 years! :D
They all look yummy.
Both cakes look delicious. I have never tried to make Baked Alaska but I love that she used a blow torch to do it. Necessity is the mother of invention, ha ha!

Thanks for sharing on #FridayFrivolity
