Ashen and Met By Midnight Blog Tour

2 Unique Cinderella Retellings!

Ashen
by H.L. Burke

Book Description:

Stealer of warmth, bringer of death. What if Cinderella had a secret that kept her locked away?

Unable to make her own body heat, foundling Lizbete survives in the tavern kitchen, drawing warmth from the fires, the sun—and sometimes, other living beings. Her days are spent cooking alongside the tavern owner and avoiding the suspicious gazes of the villagers in her small northern town. While she quietly longs for the handsome Brynar, she knows she has no chance with the mayor’s son, even if he invites her to the First Frost festival.

When sudden earthquakes strike Brumehome, blame falls upon Lizbete, and not even her friendship with Brynar can protect her. She finds shelter in the dangerous caverns of nearby Ash Mountain. There she discovers mysterious people with her same ability to draw heat—and a fiery doom in the mountain that slowly awakens with every quake.

Now the festival Lizbete thought to avoid is her only chance to warn the villagers. Yet even with Brynar at her side, can the strange girl dubbed the Ash Lizard hope to save the town that fears her?

A rugged YA Cinderella retelling set in a fantasy world with light steampunk elements.

About the Author:
H.L. Burke

Born in a small town in north central Oregon, H. L. Burke spent most of her childhood around trees and farm animals and always accompanied by a book. Growing up with epic heroes from Middle Earth and Narnia keeping her company, she also became an incurable romantic.

An addictive personality, she jumped from one fandom to another, being at times completely obsessed with various books, movies, or television series (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Star Trek all took their turns), but she has grown to be what she considers a well-rounded connoisseur of geek culture.

Married to her high school crush who is now a US Marine, she has moved multiple times in her adult life but believes home is wherever her husband, two daughters, and pets are.

Met By Midnight
by Janeen Ippolito

Book Description:

An outcast prince. A captive healer. A single night that changes their destinies.

She lives a nightmare.

As a Mender, Renna is held captive to an endless cycle of receiving and recovering from the physical ailments of others—a cycle that led her mother to an early grave. When her father becomes deathly ill, Renna is desperate to save her only remaining family. Even if it means allying with criminals and taking an illegal mission into the royal palace on the night of their greatest ball.

He’s haunted by dreams.

Unable to be Mended, Prince Jaric’s existence is a curse to his family’s façade of health and security. Marrying him off at the ball and sending him to a distant dukedom is the royal solution—but Jaric has his own plans. For years he’s dreamed of a young woman, a strong-hearted Mender he would give everything for. When she arrives the night of his betrothal, he’s determined to discover her true identity.

Met by midnight, their fates are entwined.

While escape seems the only answer, powerful forces conspire to keep Renna and Jaric within their cages. Forces that undermine the foundations of the kingdom itself—and threaten any hope of a future together.

This YA romance features Cinderella in an original fantasy world with a dystopian twist.

Fae Captive

Fae Captive
Tangled Fae Book 2

Fae Captive (Tangled Fae Book 2) by [Wilson, Sarah K. L.]

About the Book:

Title: Fae Captive (Tangled Fae Book 2) | Author: Sarah K.L. Wilson | Pages: 200 | Genre: Folklore Adaptation | Recommended Ages: Young Adult and Up

Book Description:

Think you could craft the perfect bargain?

From USA Today bestselling author Sarah K. L. Wilson comes a deliciously trope-filled young adult romantic fantasy about a viciously humorous mortal girl and her quest to hunt, trap, and conquer powerful fae.

Allie Hunter thought all she had to do was make an exchange to buy back her father's life. She was wrong. Mortals are so often wrong about the Faewald. Usually, that kills them, or mires them in bargains that will suck their life out sip by sip.

With Allie caught in a cage and the Fae she had once tormented her new captor, can she strike the right bargain to save everything she loves?

Purchase on Amazon Kindle!

My Review:

Fae Captive is the second book in the brand new Tangled Fae series by Sarah K.L. Wilson. The story starts off with a bang and doesn’t slow down. There are heart-pounding twists and turns with gruesome scenes and plenty of action. The chemistry between Allie and Scouvrel is intense. Just a kiss can make Allie’s world shift and change her made-up mind. But out of the two, who will have the upper hand? This book ends at a good stopping point, but it will leave you breathless for more! If you like fantasy and adventure with some romance, then you'll enjoy Sarah's books. She writes YA, but I would place her latest series at Upper YA.

Fae Hunter (Tangled Fae Book 1) by [Wilson, Sarah K. L.]

About the Book:

Title: Fae Hunter (Tangled Fae Book 1) | Author: Sarah K.L. Wilson | Pages: 224 | Genre: Folklore Adaptation | Recommended Ages: Young Adult and Up

Book Description:

Can one mortal take on all of Faerieland?

From USA Today bestselling author Sarah K. L. Wilson comes a deliciously trope-filled young adult romantic fantasy about a viciously humorous mortal girl and her quest to hunt, trap, and conquer powerful fae.

Our lives are nursery rhymes and faerie stories now, Allie.

When Allie Hunter's twin sister steps through a magic circle into the Faerie realm, she opens the door to deadly fae, bent on causing havoc and harm to Allie's village.

Rendered blind to all but the spirit world, Allie is frustrated and angry but determined to bring the fae down. No matter what that might cost her.

But in a world where lies are truth, power is sustenance, and every action ripples into violence, how can one mortal stop all of Faerieland?

Only $0.99 on Amazon Kindle!
This is a sale price. Please check, as the price may change.

My Review:

Fae Hunter by Sarah K.L. Wilson is the first book in a brand new series that puts a twist on the fae. They aren't what they seem and Allie, the human hunter, is out to kill them. Allie is facing monsters, trying to protect her village from worse than they’ve already experienced, but the people have lost faith in her. It doesn’t help that the boy she loves is interested in someone else or that she’s attracted to one particular Fae that she’s caught and plans to kill. Things go from bad to worse for Allie. This is a series and ends at a good stopping point, but also a cliffhanger. Once you start you won’t want to stop! If you like fantasy and adventure with some romance, then you'll enjoy Sarah's books. She writes YA, but I would place her latest series at Upper YA.

Living with Pets at the Beach and a Linky

Jessica turned 21 last Sunday! We celebrated with High Tea at Cape Grace on the Waterfront in Cape Town.

Most of these photos were taken over the Easter weekend at our kids' grandparents house and the pets belong to them. We recently looked after Ziggy, their miniature Schnauzer, while my father-in-law was in hospital. The tabby cat is Tammy and she's an old girl.

To Court a Queen

To Court a Queen
by H.L. Burke

To Court a Queen by [Burke, H. L. ]

About the Book:

Title: To Court a Queen | Author: H.L. Burke | Pages: 112 | Genre: Romantic Fantasy | Recommended Ages: Young Adult and Up

Book Description:

He doesn't want to get married, but he wants to be a frog even less.

Knight errant, Devin, takes a shortcut through the woods, only to be captured by fairy forces. The fairy queen has run out of breathing males to fight for her hand, and Devin, while not ideal fairy stock, is breathing--for now.

Telling a vain fairy queen you'd rather not be her one true love is a ticket to life on a lilypad, so the knight agrees to face three challenges to win Queen Agalea's hand. When a clever servant girl offers to help him navigate the trials in order to stop the constant bloodshed of the courtship ritual, Devin jumps at the chance. However, as he balances "flirting" with his "beloved" and overcoming tasks specifically designed to kill him, he finds his heart drawn to his new partner in survival.

My Review:

To Court a Queen by H.L. Burke is a romantic fantasy about an imperfect knight who stumbles into a deadly game that he can't refuse. He's given the choice to be turned into a frog and get eaten by a predator or face three deadly trials to win the fairy queen's hand. He doesn't even like the queen, but his survival instincts kick in and he chooses the trials. Only one male has made it past round one. With an elf slave's help, he might just survive the first and second, but no one knows what the third will be.

H.L. Burke has created an adventure packed story with witty banter and a bit of romance. This is a quick read and appropriate for young adults and up. I was one of the beta readers and this is my honest and voluntary review.

The Princess and the Peacock

The Princess and the Peacock

The Princess and the Peacock (Birds of Fae Book 1) by [Johnson, C. S.]

About the Book:

Title: The Princess and the Peacock (Birds of Fae Book 1) | Author: C.S. Johnson | Pages: 104 | Genre: Fairy Tales

Book Description:

The first time I fell in love with Princess Mele was when I saw her smile, and I fell in love with her the second time the moment I heard her sing.

Two memories burn within Kaipo's heart -- the death of his mother, which left him alone to die, and the arrival of Princess Mele, which gave him a new reason to live. Together with his adopted brother, Kaipo seeks out Jaya, the Fae Queen who lives on the Forbidden Mountain, in order to gain the beauty he requires to win Mele's heart. But Jaya has other plans for the scarred outcast who climbs up her mountain ...

The Princess and the Peacock is the first in Birds of Fae, a fantasy fairy tale novella series from C. S. Johnson.

Pre-Order on Amazon

My Review:

C.S. Johnson has written a character-driven fairytale romance and put her own spin on it. It's a first person narrative. The character is a terribly scarred young man named Kaipo. His scars have caused society to shun him. He has an adopted brother, named Rahj, who is shunned for other reasons. Kaipo wants to be made beautiful, so that he can have a chance at winning the heart of Princess Mele. Kaipo, along with the help of Rahj, sets out to win her hand.

C.S. Johnson's fairytale doesn't begin with "Once Upon a Time," but the opening line isn't much dissimilar. It begins with, "The first time I fell in love with Princess Mele was when I saw her smile, and I fell in love with her the second time the moment I heard her sing." But just like all good fairytales, a lot of things go wrong first before they get better. In fact, a good portion of the story reads like a tragedy. There are some twists and turns as C.S. Johnson explores the themes of true beauty and love.

This story grabbed my attention and kept me hanging on until the end. It's a quick read and has all the important feels. Rahj was the most interesting character of all and I hope that he gets his own book in the series. I received an eARC from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.

About the Author:
C.S. Johnson

C.S. Johnson is the author of several young adult novels, including sci-fi and fantasy adventures such as the Starlight Chronicles series, the Once Upon a Princess saga, and the Divine Space Pirates trilogy. With a gift for sarcasm and an apologetic heart, she currently lives in Atlanta with her family.

3 Clean Christmas Romances and a Linky!

All 3 Christmas Romances Are
Only $0.99 Each!

Christmas with the Recluse
by Victorine E. Lieske

Christmas with the Recluse by [Lieske, Victorine E.]

My Review of
Christmas with the Recluse:

This is a wonderful Christmas romance with all the feels. This is not just a fluffy story; it's deeply moving and one point had me nearly in tears. If you've ever lost a loved one, then you'll identify with these characters. Alexander is rude and abrasive while Charley is a breath of fresh air. The limited staff at Alexander's estate and the UPS guy are also fun side characters. Something I would have liked the author to develop further was showing off Charley's skill as an antique appraiser either during the story or in the epilogue, since it is a passion of hers.

A Tree for the Billionaire
by Michelle Pennington

A Tree for the Billionaire (Southern Billionaire Romance Book 4) by [Pennington, Michelle]

My Review of
A Tree for the Billionaire:

This is a "two weeks notice" romance with its own sweet characters and their touching story. It's a feel-good story and perfect for Christmas time. In fact, I think the title should have been "A Christmas for the Billionaire" since it's the holiday that makes the story more than an evergreen tree.

Kate has given her all in the past 2 years as the personal assistant to her billionaire boss, Christopher. She realizes that she can no longer work for him, since her heart breaks every time she sees him with a new dazzling girlfriend. When she hands in her notice, Chris realizes what he's about to lose and he's determined to change her mind. What he doesn't realize is that she is in love with him and he hasn't even had a chance to consider his own feelings for her. A Christmas holiday, something that he would normally never take, puts things into perspective. Kate isn't willing to play games - to be just a passing fling - but she is willing to show her boss, before heading home to her parents, that Christmas can be a special time of the year.

Purchase A Tree for the Billionaire on Amazon

Taming Scrooge
by Sophia Summers

Taming Scrooge by [Summers, Sophia]

My Review of
Taming Scrooge:

Taming Scrooge is a wonderful clean Christmas romance with an interesting storyline. It's no wonder that Ezra Stone has been named Mr. Scrooge. He has bad memories of Christmas and only cares about making a profit with his new resort while Star Henley cares about more than just the bottom line. The two are pushed into working together on the Festival of Trees and sparks fly. Both Ezra and Star run hot and cold in this entertaining read. The chemistry between them was described simplistically. A clean read can still have good chemistry. It's a quick read and perfect for the holidays.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of each book. These are my honest and voluntary reviews.
