Amanda began grade 1 in January of this year. She's completed her first month of school. Borrowing easy readers from the library is part of her homework. In the photo above, she is reading to her big sister, Jessica (who was in her pajamas and did not want to be photographed).

Prince likes to get in on the action. He decided to make himself comfortable on our dining room table where a moment ago I had been helping Amanda with her homework.

Sheela is Amanda's cat and Prince is Samantha's.

Encouraging little ones to read is great but then to see them doing it on their own is just awesome, having you as a mom I know that she will be very successful.
Oh and BTW Sheela looks good in black and white :)

Thanks Karren! I decided not to make use of the copyright symbol. It's something I've considered in the past and I came up with the same conclusion this time: I want people to feel free to share my images on Pinterest and Facebook and such. It helps to advertise my blogs. Thanks for the suggestion! I hope you will be seeing some signs of spring soon to help thaw away the winter. When you have Spring, we'll be having Fall. It's strange for me, even after all these years, to have Easter in Autumn. Take care and God bless!

Good for her for jumping up to 1st grade! Do you home school her? We have our kids in regular school, but work with them a lot at home to.

We are doing the same. I think that is why she is coping so well. She has a Grade K and a Grade 1 workbook at home. She got the first one in July 2013 while we were in the States and the second one she got last year while she was still in Grade K. We didn't finish either books, but the activities helped a lot and she does games on the internet with abcya.com. I'm so lucky that she doesn't mind doing homework after a day at school. Of course, she gets to chill in front of the TV first. ;)

We love our 2 cats. They are so calm and easy to care for. Ours are indoor-outdoor cats. It's too bad that you can't have one where you are.
