This week I taught a listening class on the topic of "Nostalgia" to the Level 5 English Language students at YWAM. I spent some time pondering on what nostalgia means and how I could convey that effectively. I kept going back to the idea of grandmas and how they play a big role in their grand-kids' lives, but I couldn't find a video clip for my international students that would be personal and meaningful for them. Then I got the idea of how powerful the smell of a particular food can bring back happy memories. That brought me to this fun clip on YouTube called "How Smells Trigger Memories."
My Brazilian students said that a strong trigger for them was the smell of freshly brewing coffee. It reminded them of their childhoods when their moms or grandmas would make coffee in the mornings for the whole family. That's when I learned that Brazilian kids drink coffee along with everyone else in the home.
I sometimes get a whiff of clean laundry soap or perfume that reminds me of my grandmother. She always smells good. Her beauty routine is important to her. For example, she loves having her hair done and she always looks after her skin with luxurious lotions. The last time we saw my grandma was when we went to the States in 2013. We Skyped with her over the past weekend and that was really nice.

Easy Chocolate Sauce Recipe
The other day, Amanda helped me make an easy chocolate sauce recipe that I got from my mother-in-law. It uses ingredients that you probably have at home. That's actually why we made the Easy Chocolate Sauce Recipe, because it was already nighttime and the items we needed were on hand.
