When we got back from the States, my mother-in-law had cleaned the house and left us these beautiful protea flowers, which are indigenous to South Africa. I felt so blessed! Then another day we were given the lilies. Prince is in several of the pics.

Proteas are big here. Are they your national flower? Did I make that up? They grow here too in the wild. As do the cousin Waratah, which is our State flower.
Yes, the king protea (not this one) is South Africa's national flower. I once had an arrangement of Australian proteas. They were so interesting that I dried them and kept them! :)
