Celebrating International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women's Day, I have compiled a list of books of courageous female characters. All of these stories I have reviewed over the years on Amanda's Books and More. I'm sure you'll find something here to inspire you! Just click on the book titles in blue and the links will take you to my review posts.

This book is based on a true story.

Hey there Christina! I'm visiting from the Booknificent Thursday Link-Up Party and I just wanted to say that I LOVE this list! I've never heard of most of these books, but I really like that you've chosen books with courageous female characters :) that's so important for girls to see. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thank you, Sareeta! I just visited your blog. We are a family of six with three daughters and one son. In our home we encourage feminism. I'm glad that you are spreading the word!
You might like my latest review of a young adult fantasy series called The Book of Deacon with the protagonist being a young female. Two of the books in the series are for free on Kindle and a couple are under $3 US. I am not the author. Just a reviewer. :)

Thanks for visiting! It makes me happy to hear of families that are teaching feminism :) and I'll definitely check those books out, thanks for the recommendations! Do you have an idea of what reading level they are? I teach English Language Learning to junior high students and they are at an elementary level. I'd love to give them feminist books to read!
In the list above the oldest age group level is young adult and those books are "Heir of Thunder" and "Beggar Magic." The middle grade books are "A Buss from Lafayette" (US history, so probably not ideal for your class), "Talon, Come Fly with Me" (strange use of English, so probably not appropriate), "Mary's Song" (difficult terms related to horse riding and horse equipment, so probably not appropriate), and "Princess Madeline" (fantasy, probably fine for your class). The picture books are easier to read. I think your kids will enjoy "Magelica's Voyage Books 1 and 2" and "The Mystic Princesses and the Whirlpool". I think "Bessie, Queen of the Sky" is awesome, but the story is maybe too short.
This is a good list in honor of International Women's Day.
What a great list! Pinning it to check some of these titles out!
Hi Christina, I really need to find time to read more books!! Thanks for stopping by and linking up :)
Ooh, some great looking books here! I'm always on the look out for books with great female characters for my daughter. :)

Thanks so much for sharing over at Friday Frivolity too!
Great idea for a round-up! Thanks so much for linking up at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com this week!
