First I want to wish my readers and friends a very Merry Christmas! I hope everyone has a safe and blessed holiday weekend. I chose the photo above with the red flowers and green stems, because these are traditional Christmas colors. I also thought it goes with the YouTube video below about "A Blooming Girl". The flowers are growing in a hanging basket on my balcony.

Today's post is about a girl's true story - and I happen to have two! One is a YouTube video by Youth With A Mission (YWAM) about a girl named Henrietta who is growing up in South Africa and the other is a picture book about a girl named Bessie who was the first African American woman to receive a pilot's license.

History of YWAM, Worcester, South Africa

YWAM, Worcester, South Africa celebrated their 30th Anniversary on 27 August. (YWAM stands for Youth With A Mission.) An excellent short video was put together for this event. It tells about the birth of the base and the brave people who swam against the tide of apartheid by being multi-ethnic in a time when it wasn't allowed elsewhere. It also tells a bit about the work that YWAM missionaries have done and are doing. We were apart of it all for about 9 years, just after Samantha, our third child, was born. She's now almost 16. Enjoy the video!

I've shared a few times about the English Language School (ELS) at YWAM, Worcester, South Africa. I enjoy teaching there and meeting students from around the world. Today I'm sharing a video testimony of one of the previous ELS students, Simone. Part of it was filmed on our street and at our neighbor's house and it ends off at YWAM and the ELS where I teach. She's from Brazil and a survivor of abuse.

This second video is of a superb performance by two young kids singing, "You Raise Me Up." I showed it to Amanda and she was in awe, like me.

The English Language School at YWAM Worcester, South Africa, offers English classes from levels 1 - 5 to foreign language students from around the world. Every school term (about 11 weeks long), the students graduate a level if they are proficient enough. They learn grammar, listening, and pronunciation. This last term I was one of the listening and pronunciation teachers. The graduation was held at the beautiful Leipzig Country House.

I'm one of the listening and pronunciation teachers for several classes at the English Language School in YWAM this term. This week's theme in the Level 5 English Language class was on "Battle of the Sexes." The class is made up of a few men and women from Brazil, Angola and Madagascar. I only see them for one hour a week for their listening class.

Gender equality is a topic close to our hearts. For example, my husband is a big advocate for women in ministry. He spends countless hours on forums and writes blog posts on the topic on Real Church Life.

For my listening class, I chose two excellent YouTube videos. One is about the roles of American women during World War II, "Wartime Rosies," and the other is a speech by Emma Watson at the UN. I don't necessarily condone everything that is said on these two videos, but the message is clear in both of them and that is what I want to leave you with.
