We try to do something special every Thanksgiving, but since it's not a holiday celebrated in South Africa, we often have to compromise. We invited our neighbor and she said it was her first Thanksgiving. Our son couldn't make it, becaus he was working. Also, this year we were having a heat wave and so we decided to eat only cold food. That meant that we roasted the turkey the night before. Also, my husband said there was only one brand of turkey at the grocery store, so next year we'll try a different grocery chain store to see if they offer a better option.
The decorations were all brought over by my mom two Christmases ago when she and my stepdad were visitng from the States. My husband is the South African side of our family and he's a real star! When I got home from last minute grocery shopping early Wednesday evening with the girls, the turkey was already in the oven. Amanda made the cupcakes all by herself from scratch and they were yummy! We made a whipping cream icing (frosting) by adding icing sugar (powdered sugar) and a bit of vanilla essence and yellow food coloring.

That all looks fantastic and I was wondering how many expats celebrate T-Giving. You did it up right! Have you ever thought about deep frying or bbqing a turkey?
Thanks! I saw deep frying on TV once. The BBQ would need a lid I bet, but it would take the heat outside. Our BBQ is an open fireplace and it’s called a braai, pronounced bride without the d. 😉
Family traditions are so important! I’m sure you’ve seen the positive way your own traditions have brought your family together. From what I’ve read on your blogs, your home life has been rich with love and care. Thanks for visiting! Have a great week!
Aw, what an amazing Thanksgiving! I had the best day ever on Thanksgiving myself. I love that you were able to celebrate the holiday even in South Africa!
Tina, I am ALways blown away by the color and beauty you bring to whatever festivities or even every day decor (like flowers) in your life. This is one of the most colorful Thanksgiving tables I've ever seen :D A Belated Happy Thanksgiving :D oxox
